PvE Ranger help.
I really like the ranger class. The arrows, the beasts, the survival skills, the... I never tried traps yet. I just haven't played in a year or two, and don't know what to play with for a secondary now. Can anyone give me an effective PvE build with a suggested secondary class? Thank you in advance, I appreciate it.

Eh, /mo is always good. I am a r/mo and with rebirth i have single handedly saved my team on more than one occasion. Your team will love you forever if you have rebirth. And barrage+judge's insight pwns mobs. Also, I always bring dodge and atleast 1 trap unless I know FOR SURE that it will have no use. But when isn't a trap usefull? Traps are most effective using all 3 types at once(excluding the elite trap as you have barrage in there). Blinding, crippling, bleeding, burning, and also using apply poison gets enemies low on health real quick. Come to think of it, a skill that takes advantage of an enemy having multiple conditions would pwn. Not sure what skill/proffession/if it exists though.
Also, with some luck you can solo farm with traps. I took out 4 hydras in about 10 seconds 0(after of course spending 1.5 minutes dropping all 3 traps like mad).
Another good use of traps is to drop them next to mobs while they concentrate on your tank.
so, r/mo:
barrage (e)
dodge
judge's insight
dust trap
flame trap
barbed trap
healing spring/troll unguent for self heal
res sig/rebirth
Or, for single target pwnage,
switch barrage for quick shot
and judge's insight for apply poison/kindle arrows
if you need an interupt in there, obviously just take out one trap. Just decide which trap/s is/are most effective for your style.
Never forget about dodge when in sticky situations.
That's about all I can teach as I just bought the game a few weeks ago.

Thank you both for the advice.
I was thinking though, R A C, about what you said. Now JS looks like a good skill, but what if I went R/ME and replaced that with Fragility? Since it is described as: For 8-18 seconds, target foe takes 5-17 damage each time that foe suffers or recovers from a new "Condition", I could cast it beforehand and lure them to the traps, or aftrwards so when the condition ends, they stil take dmg.
Now plastichead I noticed a 2 interuption skills and a definsive and healing move. Is most of the dmg coming from your traps and oath shot(replace later by barrage)?
Again, thank you for the help, I really appreciate it.

yeah, most of my damage will be thru traps.
but i prioritize keeping my parties casters alive.
i will throw myself in the path of oncoming enemies, hit whirling d, drop the traps, use oath, drop the traps again, and watch the enemies change their minds about goin for the monks.
if everything goes smoothly (tank holds aggro) i may sneak up behind tank and drop dust trap, to blind the enemies.
but normally i just stay between the tank and the casters (just in case one slips by) and interrupt the enemy casters in this order: monk, then mesmer, then ele
you could also drop savage shot for apply poison
